ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

Unique vintage medal honoring St. Ignatius Loyola.

From a soldier of Spain to a soldier of Christ, Ignatius Loyola's life was transformed by God's love. After being wounded in battle, he spent a long time recuperating where he underwent a remarkable conversion. Inspired by reading books about Christ and saints' lives, Ignatius left his family castle and embarked on a pilgrimage to the Benedictine shrine of Our Lady of Monserrat. There he placed his sword on the altar of the Blessed Mother and dedicated himself to has as a knight. Living in a cave, his spiritual life and the work on his masterpiece, the Spiritual Exercises began. The Spiritual Exercises is a collection of his insights, prayers and suggestions on spirituality. His spirituality is expressed in the Jesuit motto, AMDG, ad majorem Dei gloriam - "for the greater glory of God." Ignatius founded the Society of Jesus or the Jesuits. Today, the Society of Jesus serves through Jesuit organizations around the world through education, social justice and spirituality. Experience the love of God as St. Ignatius Loyola did and make a difference in your life.

St. Ignatius Loyola is the patron of spiritual exercises. His feast day is July 31.

Teach us to be generous, good Lord; teach us to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing we do your will.
