BLESSED JUNIPERO SERRA
Unique vintage medal honoring Blessed Junipero Serra.
Miguel Jose Serra was born on the island of Majorca in 1713. He took the name of 'Junipero' when he entered the Franciscan Order and in honor of Brother Juniper who was a Franciscan and a companion of St. Francis. He left for Mexico City in 1750 and spent the rest of his life converting the people of the New World. Junipero was a dedicated missionary and was sent to California from Mexico City where he founded the twenty-one California missions and converted thousands of Indians. His dedication and passion for his faith and his people earned him the name 'Apostle of Califonia'.
Blessed Junipero Serra is the patron of vocations. His feast day is celebrated on July 1.
PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF BLESSED JUNIPERO SERRA
O Lord Jesus Christ, reward the apostolic zeal of Your servant, Blessed Junipero Serra, who departing his native Spain, labored for the salvation of souls in Mexico and California. Grant that, as we honor him for his dedication to You, he may be recognized as a saint in the Church. Through Blessed Junipero's intercession, kindly grant the favor I request. Amen.
